PROGRAM FOR BOWIE SPRING MEETING. Seven Races Daily, with No Purse Less Than 5600 — No Charge for Stalls. By George I?. Morris. Washington. I. C. March 11.— The Southern Maryland Agricultural Association has issued its spring program for the first six clays at the Bowie course. The mooting will begin on April 1 and eon tinue twelve days. There will be seven races daily on the card. General Manager .1. lines I". OHnra announced today that there will be no purse less than i?CiHI during the meeting, and the association will not charge for stall rent. Arrangements have lieen made- for the accommodation of bane owners to shin their hemes via the Pennsylvania railroad to the Naval Academy Inaction, where they will he transported direct to the course over the Washing ton. Baltimore and Annapolis railway. Fur the opening days program there will be two race- of the shorter variety, two of three-c|uart rs and the remainder over a mile. The following weights shall be carried when not in the condition of the race: In races of one-half mile, two-year-olds shall carry M pounds: three-year-olds 114: four-year-olds 120; five, six and older. 127 pounds. In three-quarter mile races, two-year-olds shall carry S4 pounds: three year olds lid: four year-dels 133: five-, six and older. US pounds. In races of one mile, two year-olds shall carry 01 iMiuiuls: three-year-olds 107: four-year olds 120; five, six and older, 180 pounds. In races of one mile and a half or more, two year-olds will carry 88 pounds: three -year olds MB; four rear-olds lL* i; five-. six and older. 131 pounds. In races of intermediate lengths, the weiguts fulfill- shorter distance- -hall be carried. In races exclusively for three-year-olds, or four-year-olds, the weight shall be 120 pounds, and for two-year olds. 122 pounds. In handicaps and in races where the conditions expressly slat- to the contrary, fillies two years old shall lie allowed three pounds and mares three years old and over shall be allowed five- pounds before September 1. and three pounds afterwards, but no horse -hall carry less than 84 pounds. Spur Line from Station to Track. General Manager Oll.-irn stated today that he had alHiut concluded arrangements with the Pennsylvania Railway whereby this road will commence putting in a spur line from Bessie station direct to the track. It is estimated that it will cost 150,000 to construct this line but Mr. OHara. thoughtful of the publics welfare, is of the opinion that the money i- being well and wisely sjient. This road would have been constructed sometime ago but owners of the- land through which it was necessary to secure right of way. put such fabulous sums cm their property that it was nut of all reason. Bow-ever, this obstacle has been imtsM and the road will be constructed. Word was received here today that about one hundred and fifty horses will be shipped this coming week direct from Havana to the Bowie course, and as this will give the horses about two weeks in which to freshen up. then should be plenty of racing mate rial on hand for the inauguration. Every stable at the course has been taken and many owners will be forced to quarter their horses either at Laurel or the Penning course. It is predicted that racing in Maryland this year will have reached its height of popularity, and everybody in this territory is anxiously awaiting the return of the thoreughbrods to this section of the country. No Chanjre in Officials This Year. The maiiagi mi nt announced today that there will be no change in the officials this season. A. P. Dade will wield the flag and Judge Joseph Murphy will preside, while W. P. Spurgeon. Judge Carter Hall and Judge W. A. Anderson will act as steward-. Judge Anderson is the dean of sporting writers in this section of the country, a Yale graduate and one of the nio-t popular gentlemen that has ever been so honored in an official capacity at the c-our-e-. W. P. Spurgeon. managing editor of the Wsshington Post, is a well known racing man. while Judge Carter Hall is too we-11 anil favorably known to need any Introduction. Mortimer Mahoney. well known on race tracks as ,-.n efficient ami competent ring manager, will have charge of the mnuel machines.
