RULES UPHELD AT HAVANA PENALTIES FROM RULING OFF TO LIMITED SUSPENSIONS AWARDED TO OFFENDERS. H. G. Bedwell Ships Twenty Horses to Maryland and Departs Himself — Hedricks Best Horses Going to Kentucky — Sir Wellons Fired. By T. K. Lynch. Havana. Cuba. March 11.— The stewards have had numerous sessions during the past week with owners, riders and trainers and. as a result, several rulings were handed out which brought turf banishment to some and extended suspensions to others. The most important cases were those of jockeys Me -Ewe-n and B. Watts. These two old riders got themselves into trouble, it is claimed, by approaching some of the other jockeys with propositions to enter into a combination to place their horses and wager on a horse to be se-lected by them. Fortunately, the scheme- was nippeel in the bud. as it were, and both of these wrong-doers were given plenty of rope to hang themselves. It is said that the evidence against them includes affidavits from two or three parties who were on the outside-. This is not the first case- that Watts was involved in here. He- was mixed up in the Cold Cap Yellow Eye-s o;iso two years ago. but things broke lueky for Watts en that occasion and he suiieedecl in escaping turf banishment. In view of the testimony in the last case, it would appear as though the testimonv introduoeil liefore steward T. C. McDowell showing the culpability of Watts on that occasion, was we-11 founded. Later M in the week another ruling was handed out Which brought suspension for six months to Burt Burton and Frank J. Beams, and an indefinite suspension for Will im Kuykendahl. These were employed as messengers in the grandstand and they got into trouble over some infraction of the rules of the club. Messengers have always been a source of great aiiuovanoe niiel many of them have at times been mixed up in shady transactions. It Is said that Kuykendahl made the boast that a ruling by the officials here would not bar him from pursuing his vocation at the race courses around New York. Bedwell Stable Shipped to Laurel. IT. There are some- useful honea in the Hedrick string and they -hould cut some figure in tin- early meetings up the line. Heros another come- back. W. C. Father Bill Daly bended the- list of winning stable- racing at Oriental Park last week. Hi- two imported French colts. Ani|M-re- II. and Foiictioiinaire, won three-races and finished ins-ide the- moin-y on two other ooea-ioiis. winning ,080 for their owner. This brought the- total earnings of the- stable up to ,800 for the- meeting. Brother Mike, who is training the horse- for Brother Bill, also won a race with one- of his own horses, which enabled him to enter the ranks of owners whose hor-es have won over ,000 here this winter. Senor Teton lias been forced to retire his prom-hdng three -year -dd Sir Wellons for a while-. Signs of developing osselets begun to show on the colts ankles and a precaution. iry measure was taken to kill the growths before they gained ton much headway, so a few days ago the firing irons were applied to bath ankles. Phis means that Sir Wellons will not lie Bean at the post again for several weeks. His trainer will, however, make an at-ti-mpt to get him ready to fill some of his en-gagem wts in Canada during the summe-r. Im-perator, in the- same stable, is doing well and is in grand condition.
