EMIL HERZ OWNER OF MANISTER T0I. Man Who Had Great Success with Short Grass Acquires Another English Racer. Emil Herz has bought Manister Toi from Grant Hugh Browne anil will prepare him for the Kentucky Derby. Manister Toi is the son of Baa tot-Ht riot. He had one start during the New Orleans meeting, making an ordinary showing. On the fourth day of the Oaklawn meeting he appeared in a claiming sprint among an ordinary band and won and was not claimed. His next start was in a mile- dash, won by Opportunity, and although showing early speed he finished fast. tin his next start, again at a mile, which was last Monday, he reversed proceedings, winning in a drive trom Spear Lame, with Opportunity back in the ruck. Tin- other three-year-olds in this race- were giving Manister Toi considerable weight, but the courage with which he ran. together with his rather rapid improvement in a few races, erideatly influenced Mr. Hen to buy him. The hitters racing experience in England may have caused him to fancy English horses above Americana- as he is said to have predicted that North Star III. would be the three- year-old star in America this year -but the chances are- that Mr. Ilerzs great success with Short Gram was probably the- chief factor. At any rate. Minister Tois transfer to this shrewd owin-r and trainer boosts him as a factor in tin- big race to be- decided at Churchill Downs May 12.
