ELKRIDGE HUNT CUP NOT TO BE RUN. Will Give Way This Year to the Maryland Hunt Club Rcr.cw.il on May 12. Baltimore. Mel.. March 9. The Klkridge Hunt Cap will not be run this year because of the Maryland Hunt Cup Renewal at Pimlieo on Saturday. May 11. The former was a four-mile contest over the Warfield estate, near Timoiiium. and the latter, which was not run in FUti. will lie at the same distance on the flit. The Klkridgp committee figured that owners would save their thoroughbreds for the ,000 purse in the Uenewal. and did not wish to take a Chance of not having the best horses entered, because there will be only a week between the tWO events. The Klkridge wis first run in 1914 and was captured by Talisman II.. owned by ,. Morton Stewart, and the following spring A. J. A. D.-vereuxs Con-qaeror got home in front. The first past the judges last year was Prince Hal, carrying the silks of Jresham H. Poe. Three society events, however, will b run this spring — they being the Ornnd National Point to-Ioint on Saturday. April 121: the Maryland Hunt Cup St-eplec-hase to be decided Saturday, April lis, and tiie Renewal, which will be held before breakfast at Old Hilltop on Saturday. May 12. With these events out of the way. Maryland-owned horses will be primed for their invasion of Ne-w York. Hurgeois. owned by J. S. Wilson. Jr., made em .11 sit up and take notice a year ago and probably will be a dangerous competitor again this season. The thoroughbred forme riy owned by C. K. Harrison. Jr.. carried off the ■ venteenih running of the Point to-Point and the Maryland Hunt, which was not entered in the Klkridge, which was won by Prince Hal. Picking up George Browa, Jr.. and saffkh at bad to make 100 pounds the thoroaghbred with the ! r le-li name beat Patrick, owned b.v Thomas B. Cottman tend ridden by !.. Blackhftoa in the Graad riatinaal cm Saturday. April 24. Victor Plat, ouieel and ridden b.v Albert ;. Ober. Jr.. was the only other one to finish. The other starters were Ticket of Leave. Traymore, Whistler. Uamlio, F.ilwin Grey, Fleet. Prince Hal. Chateau I.afitte, induction aad Gave Chick. Victor Over Four Mile Courre. A week later Hurgeois showed that he was a good thoroughbred by coming back and Shall I lag the laurels in the Maryland Hunt, a contest over about four miles of natural country, a mile more than he traveled in the Point-to-Point. Mr. Frown again had the mount and did not make a mistake, the weight this time being MB pounds. Itack of him wen The Stc m. owned and ridden by Louis Mel.. Mcrryman: Prince Hal. with Jervis Silencer. Jr.. up: and Patrick, ridden by Mr. I.lae-kiston. Thoas wdio did not finish were Came Chick. F.ilwin Grey, Deseeadaat, Kilix. Earl and Mullin ilioii". The next appearance of Bargeois was on Saturday. May 13, at Helmont Teiiuinal. when he was unex-pectedly beaten by Association In the Timber Top-para Champion Chase, worth fl.000. Association came from away back aad, guided by that astute reatkaaaa rider the late Percy Evaaa, got up in time to grab the laurels. Association also is dead. Burgeot* is a powerful horse and has dc velopeel into a grand juniper. When he first made his appearance over t.i" sticks in Maryland hardly anybody believed lie would improve to such a great extent. Bust.T Davidson, who trained him for Harrison. ■aid Bargeois would deliver, aad his judgment was correct. Davidson, in his time, was a great steeplechase rider, and once owned The Welkin. Time will t .11 if Wallace w. faaafcaa parked up a good one in Cockapar, Which he- purchased from Drnest Ftt-rback. Cockspur is a powerful horse by Broomstick, tied won a number of races on the flat on the Maryland tracks. If he takes kindly to the- fences his speed should make him a dangerous calender in the three local society events. Mr. laaahaa .also will send Bdwia Grey to the post carrying his colors, and Titan, which will sport the silks of Mrs. Lanah.in. If Cockspur la unable to negotiate the jumps he should be heard from in the K- newaL
