WHAT APRIL OFFERS IN WAY OF RACING. The month of April ushers in the eastern racing season. On Monday. April 2. the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association throws open its gates at Bowie for its soring meeting of twelve days. While no stake races have been provided for this inaugural eastern meeting, overnight handicaps and purses will be liberal enough to attract good fields. Most ot the horses, ivln-h have wintered at Benning. are reported to lie in excellent form and will be ready for the Bowie meeting. They will be called on to meet those which have raced at Havana and New Orleans, the contingent from both places being quite large. Considerable interest will center in the two-year-old races, at Bowie, us it will be the first appearance under silks of these youngsters in conformity with the new rule of the Jockey Club, prohibiting two-year-old racing before April 1. While none of the reputed stars from the big stables of the Baal will be introduced to the racing public so early in the year, still nevertheless, some good-looking youngsters, which wintered at Benning and Chales-ton. are ready to begin their turf career. With the close of the Bowie meeting, the Harford Agriculture and Breeders Association will step in and transfer the scene of operations to the Havre de Grace track. This meeting will open on Monday. April ltl and will continue for thirteen days up to and including Monday. April 30. Nine stake races have been arranged for the Havre de Grace meeting and all have filled exceptionally well. Two of the number are for two-year-olds and among the entries are some fashionably bred youngsters. The Hunt Clubs will also inaugurate their season of sport in April with a one day meeting at Hewletts Parh on Long Island under the auspices of the Kockaway Hunt Club, on the twenty -eighth day ef the mouth. The only racing in the south or west during the early days of April will be that at Essex Dark, Hot Springs. However, on April 2S the Kentucky Association will start the ball rolling in the Blue Grass State with its eleven days spring meeting at the old historic Lexingtou track.
