SOME ITEMS CONCERNING DADDY H0LBERT. Louisville. Ky.. June 2. — Since he scored in such a hard drive over Bradleys Choice last Wednesday, it is the general opinion hereabouts that nobody knows how good Uuddy Ilolbert. the three-year-old son of Little Dutch- Cloisteress. really is. This marked his third successive victory and he showed to better advantage each time out. He is practically a "gift horse" and, as "gift horses" usually turn out good, he is no exception. Wayne Joplin of Elizabethtown. Ky., one of the best-known turfmen in the country, gave Little Dutch to Rodney Wnrfield, a mule buyer of the same city and the latter bought Clositeress, after she broke down, paying a ridiculously low price for her. Daddy Holbort was the first foal by this mating and he was not raced as a two-year-old becausa of his small stature. Warfield turned him over to R. P. Hrooks to train and Brooks says that he is one of the fastest horses that he ever trained. Little Dutch was by Nasturtium — Dutch Barbary. but it evidently is on his dams side that Daddy Holbert gets his staying qualities. Cloisteress was by Carlton Grange — Claire II., by Lowlander, and was bred in England, being brought over in utero in 1903. His connections have profited handsomely by his three victories to date.
