WISE MOVE IMPORTING WEANLINGS Fine Condition of Drake English-Bred Yearlings Shows Wisdom of Such Policy, Saratoga, N. Y., August 9. Tho good prices realized ,at the sale of the John A. Drake con-, signmentof English-bred yearlings, were attributed to not only the excellence of their breeding, but the fine condition in which they entered the sales ring. Horsemen generally endorse the opinion tli.it Mr. Drakes policy of importing these horses as weanlings was a master stroke of sagacity. "These youngsters," said a prominent trainer last night, "having spent so many months in Kentucky pastures since their arrival in this country, are practically just as ready for breaking and training ns if they had been foaled here. "No one can realize," he continued, "how great an assistance in breaking and training the yearlings these months of acclimation may be-, and for myself, I believe that Mr- Drakes importation of these animals when they were weanlings was a great service to our bloodstock industry. One thing is certain, whatever percentage of merit the obpection to acclimating an older .animal may or may not possess, the objectiandnflis ctmploieiy removed by the long time that these yearlings have alreadv been in this country and they get an equal start with our native yearlings in the breaking and training operations which must begin shortly.
