The finishes in a majority of the races were ev.ci—dingly close and of the driving variety. That in the third race was especially so and J. M. Zimmers old campaigner. Preston Lynn, furnished a thriller by coming from the rear, after being outpaced in the early running, and in a terrific closing rush snatched victory from the three-year-old Ornery by the smallest of margius. The hustling ride ami strong finish of J. Rodriguez was in a great measure responsible for Preston Lynns success. Rodriguez was much in the limelight during the afternoon, piloting three winners and finishing sec-wmt with two others. Besides Preston Lynn. Rodriguez rode Senator Broderick to an easy win in the fifth a:id also landed Margery first in the closing d;:sh. in which instance he again had to put up a strong finish to prevent his mount from succumbing to the fast finish of Tootsie. The Busybody and Hildas Brother hooked up in a jr. lulling contest in the sixth, ihe former holding a small lead all the way and Stirl itig took 110 i minces -ind rode him out at the finish. The juvenile race went to the California-bred Si l C. Keeuer which, under the masterly riding of Butwell, proved too fast for those opposing him. Indian Chants success in the second was of the hair-raising kind, in which Ina K.. despite a resolute and fast closing rush, could not overtake tin- leader. lockey Stii-ng rode two winners, Indian Chant and The Bu vhody. Jockey J. Butwell has lieen notified that he has been granted a transfer from Camp Upton, New York, to Camp Meade, in Maryland. Butwell will inter the service tomorrow.
