EMIL HERZ PLEASED WITH HIGH COST Confident That He Has Secured High Class Colt — Derby Training to Start Immediately. Louisville. Ky.. April 4. — Emit Herz arrived here in time to see his recent purchase High Cost taken off the cars. He was well satisfied with the colts apiiearance. Yesterday morning the colt was given some limbering up exercise around the Douglas Iark track. He was closely scrutinized by horsemen ami found to be a i-olt of fine apiiearance. He is a medium sized horse and liears a strong reseml. lance to his sire Yon Tromp. although he is not as big. Trainer Fl -inigan has already taken the colt in hand and will rush forward Ids preparation for the Kentucky Derby. Mr. Herz declined to state the amount of money he had naid Ray Kgan for the son of You Tromp. but iie remarked that he had paid enoitirh. He believes, however, that he has secured a really high class colt, having always entertained a high opinion of hetk the colts sire and dam. He had often seen Mitten under colors and believes she was one of the lies! long distance running mares in this country. High Cost may or may not prove to lie a high-class three -year-old. but there is no denying the fact that he was a most useful two-year-old. His record last year of six vietorH-s in seven starts prows this conclusively. His training for the Derby will be watched by local turf exports with an interest uiinost as keen as that shown about Sun Briar and Escoba. Mr. Herz. tqioii his arrival here, learned that two of his most promising two-year-old fillies wen" seriously ill. One of them is by Plaudit — llamlzarra and her case is the more serious of the two. Herz left today for Lexington to inspect his stallions and mares now at Idle Hour Farm. He will return shortly and expects to remain in I..OU.-ville until Derby Day.
