SOME RECENT RACING IN ENGLAND The English flat racing season of this year opened nt Birmingham. April 1. with one day devoted to the snort. The first race of the year for two-year-olds, the Coventry Plate, at live-eighths of a mile, had nineteen starters ai.d was won by Sir W. J. Tatems bay colt. Ex ford, by Marcovil — Lawford. with Da ••hue second and Monte Faro, the favorite, third. One of the incidents of the day was the victory of the veteran American racer. Oversight, by Ballyhoo Bey — Forget, in the Broeu strove Selling Plate. Now eleven years old. this horse was taken to England by II. P. Whitney, won races there for him .-md has continued to win races for other owners ever since passing from his possession. Following his easy victory in the "War National" at Gatwick. locthlyu won the im|icrt:iiit Lancashire Steeplechase at Manchester. April 1. In this he carried 172 pounds over a three and a half miles course and won by four lengths, with Wavertrec. 15S pounds, second, and Top Hole. 141 pounds, third. Fourteen started.
