JOCKEY RODRIGUEZ IN RIDING SLUMP While jockey Rodriguez was piling up victory after victory at the recent Bowie meeting, where he rode eighteen winners, it was thought that it would not l»- long Is-fore the little Spaniard would graduate from the apprentice ranks. At the con elusion of that meeting he had thirty -one winning mounts to his credit and needed but nine more to make him a full-fledged jockey. According to the new rule of the Jockey Club a rider loses his apprentice allowance after piloting forty winners, whereas under the old rule a boy remained an apprentice for one year after riding his first winner. However. Rodriguez has had a slump since the Havre meeting liegan and did not ride a winner until Friday, when he scored with Irregular. J. Arthur, who holds a five year contract 011 the Ihi.v. has been a patient tutor, but is confident that the lad will lie one of the foremost riders in the country in the near future.
