BROWNIE McDAWELL suffered sharply in a jam in the first quarter and had to Ik- hard ridden in the last quarter, but finished gamely and won GREEN GRASS down in the last seventy yards to win going away. GREEN GRASS raced forwardly from the start, but swerved out slightly when hard ridden. STAR BABY ran 11 good race, but tired after taking the lead. MAR TOM ran well, but tired right at the end. BLUE PARADISE showed speed, but ran as if short. MISS BONERO was leading when struck from behind and cut down. Overweights — Green Grass. 3 pounds; Best Beau, 5. QrTOQQ SECOND RACE— 4 1-2 Furlongs. ALEX OETZ. after racing in closest pursuit from the start, moved into the lead just before reaching the stretch and held XEPE safe in the tinal drive. XEPE showed the most early speed and set a good pace, but tired ami had to be ridden hard at the end to outstay THE GRADER. The latter raced gamely and linished fast, but probably needed a race. COL. OPPORTUNITY, greatly favored by the going, showed the most speed from the start and easily outstayed ARRIET in the final drive. ARRIET moved up with a rush after going a half mile, but tired slightlv in the stretch drive. BRIBED VOTER ran well, held on resolutely in the final drive and outstayed FRUIT CAKE. The latter ran as if short, hut was well up to the last eighth. ROYAL II. and VALOR ran well for three-quarters. TOM McTAGGART was away slowly and was done for after going three-quarters.
