ยป BENEVENTES CRAVEN STAKES VICTORY The Newmarket Craven meeting took place April It!. 17 and IK. Despite heavy going and unfavorable weather, the attendance and racing was excellent and all concerned voted the opening of the regular racing season Ht "headquarters" a success. Quite an outstanding feature was the victory of tl ignificent fillv Believente in the Craven Stakes at a mile. As a two-year-old she was only beaten once, and then by the accident of a bad start, so her debut under trying conditions as a t luce-yea r-oh 1 was viewed with great interest. She carried 129 pounds and gave much weight to the others. Her opponents, all supposed good three year oi.ls. were Arrowsmith. 125 pounds; Treclare. 125; Tamworth, 122: King Ceorges colt, Parsifal, 118; Thermogene. Jack Point ami Poilu, 117 each. Thermogene was the favorite at 2 to 1 and Bene-vente second choice at 2% to 1. but when the fillys rider was ready, she made short work of the others by striding to the front and winning in faultless fashion by two lengths, with Thermogene second ami poilu third. It was a red letter day for S. B. Joels famous sire Polym.lus. The three placed in the Craven Stakes are by him. while his sons Polyoraiua anil Dominioii won the Three-Year-Ohl Handicap and the Maiden Two -Year-Old Piute resix-ctively that after-ni kiii.
