; l . , . MILITARY PROGRAM FOR DERBY DAY , General Kale and Staff front Camp Zachary Taylor I to Be Guests of Churchill Downs Management. Louisville. Ky.. May 9. — Major General Harry Hale, commanding officer at Camp Zachary Taylor, held a conference yesterdav morning at Churchill j Downs with General Manager Matt J. Winn, regard ing the military arrangements for the meeting. It was announced after, that Coner.il Hale with his staff will be the guests of the club Derby day. also a detachment of troops and a regimental band from the camp. Prior to the first race the troops will i assist in the unfurling of an immense American flag in center field. Coventor O. A. Stanley will also | be present and will make a patriotic address. After Derby day each Wednesday ami Saturday of tl:e meelhig will be set aside as military days, when approximately ten thousand troops from Camp t Taylor will lie the guests of the dak. On each of these days the soldiers will march from their camp headed by a regimental band, to the Downs, where the ci liter field will lie the scene of a series of drills. On each of these days special races, in keeping with the occasion, will Is- programed. Among the earlier arrivals for Derby day are J. H. Rosseter and .1. R. Colemnn. who came all the way from San Francisco to view the Derby. Mr. itoseler is a new recruit to lacing and this is his first vKit to Churchill Downs. He was amazed to find such a beautiful course anil warmly congratulated Col. Winn on the splendid ap|iearance of the place. Mr. Coleman, who accompanied Mr. Rosseter. is a native of Louisville, but has been away from lliis city for fifteen years. Other arrivals of prominent riicing folks include John A. Drake and Col. Andrew Yennie, who came from New-York. The stable of A. K. Macomber. in charge of Thomas Murphy, returned to Churchill Downs yesterday morning from Lexington. The horses arrived in good condition. Willis Sharpe Kilmer and trainer Henry Mc-Daniel went to Lexington yesterday morning and will return some time today. C. T. Worthii.glons good filly Yiva America has reached the Downs from 1xington and a| |x-ars to In in g.s.d condition. Owner Worthinglon says she will surely start in the Derby. War Cloud was worked a half mile yesterday morning in M% and later in the afternoon was given another stiff work-out at one mile.
