I A. J. J0YNER MEETS WITH TOUGH LUCK New York. June ML — After getting a good start with the horses of ieorge I. Widener, A. J. Joyner has run into a streak of uncommonly bad luck. The Portuguese, the three-year-old bay geld ing by Aaaadis — Ilnbrosa, after winning his maiden effort on the track rather impressively, went ami s and this, being followed up by a second and more serious injury, he is apt to lie out of racin" for some time. Then tiie good three-year-old brown gelding Abadanc. by Mahoul II. — Alby. went ser iously wrong after having won two races close to gether and he appears destined to be on the shelf for some time to conic. All this was followed by the going amiss of the splendid three -year-old chestnut gelding Lanius, by Ll.-ingiliby— Southern Belle. Lanius raced well last autumn and did so well during the past winter, that many were disposed to think he ranked with the best three year-old of 191S. but now it is hard to guess how soon he will again be seen under racing silks. This was not the end of the had luck which has haaa following Mr. Joyner and the George D. Widener horses. Last Tuesday afternoon Unstable was represented in the fourth race at one milky the g.iod four-year-old filly Columbine, which was extremely well thought of, although the field iu which she was starting was a strong one. but to the surprise of Mr. Joyner and his friends, she failed to finish among the placed horses and. when she came out of the race, it was found that she hud I burst ono of her feet.
