LATONIAS FINAL WEEK OF RACING Quickstep Handicap and Cincinnati Trophy Conclud ¬ ing Stake Features of Wonderful Meeting Cincinnati O July 8 Tlie final week of tlie Kentucky spring and summer racing reason is at hand and the horsemen who have been racing at Latonia since the middle of June are either prepar ¬ ing to move east after next Saturday or to take tilings easy for a few weeks until the time rolls around for the fall campaigning of their stables Some of the more pretentious establishments are planning to make their customary summer cam ¬ paign at the Empire City and Saratoga tracks at each of which racing centers the Kentucky contin ¬ gent usually makes a respectable showing in com ¬ petition with the big stables of the east A few of the cheaiMir class of horses will go west for the Cheyenne and Reno meetings and still others of this class will find some employment in connection with tlie racing that is coming to be a popular feature of tlie fairs that are held in Kentucky and adjoin ¬ ing states during the summer summerThe The suspension of Canadian racing for the period of the war lias robbed western horsemen of out of their most fertile summer fields of action and will result in more stables remaining in Kentucky during the summer than is usually the case When Cana ¬ dian racing was in progress it was convenient and tempting for Kentucky owners to participate in the sport at Windsor especially and some of the stables from this section made it a practice of patronizing the Canadian circuit as far east as Fort Erie and Hamilton iu the interim between tlie spring KentuckyThe and fall racing seasons in Kentucky The closing week of the season opens with the prospect of more spirited eomitetition among the owners of racing stables than at any previous time When the end of the meeting approaches everybody appears to be possessed with a desire to race his horses as frequently as possible and large fields prevail as one result of the general desire to make the most of tlie few remaining opportunities to race
