SPENDING MORE FOR OUR AMUSEMENTS AMUSEMENTSThe The American people are spending slightly more for amusements but less for travel as the war progresses This fact is revealed in a comparison of the May receipts of taxes collected by the in ¬ ternal revenue bureau at Washington with the re ¬ ceipts for previous months War taxes from all sources collected in May amounted to 123391510 1 1The The 10 per cent charge on admissions to theaters concerts cabarets and like nlaces amounted to 45J4995 indicating that the American people spent approximately 45000000 on such amuse ¬ ments during the month In February taxes from these same sources totaled 3708000 indicating an expenditure of approximately 37000000 The A per cent tax on passenger fares during May yielded 3 7 5 SCJO which shows that approxi ¬ mately 40519000 was spent in traveling during the month During February the same tax raised for the treasury 4405200 representing expendi ¬ tures for traveling of 558l0000
