LATEST KENTUCKY TURF GOSSIP Kay Spcncos Horses to Summer at Douglas Park J B Campbell Leaves for Michigan Louisville Ky July 22 The horses of Kay Spence W W Darden G Knebelkamp and Char ¬ ley Rowe have arrived at Douglas Park from La tonia and will be summered at that course AH of the horses in those four stables have had a hard spring of it and freshening them up will no doubt help them considerably considerablyWord Word has been received from Latonia that sev ¬ eral of the big stables which contemplated an eastern campaign arc still unable to get express cars and it is doubtful when they will get away Those which were bound for Empire City will now no doubt be sent on to Saratoga SaratogaGene Gene Elrod who has charge of the parimutuel departments on the Kentucky circuit took a few of his employes to Toledo O for the Grand Circuit meeting at which the iron men will be used for the first time Following the close at Toledo Elrod will return here for the summer summerHundley Hundley Baker will not ship his horses east as was his intention but will summer them at Latonia His thoroughbreds have had a strenuous campaign this year and they will no doubt be benefitted by a good rest restJockey Jockey Roscoe Goose who intended to ride at Saratoga has returned to his home here and will rest up until fall Goose was seriously injured last spring at Lexington but is too game to let a thing like getting hurt make him retire from the saddle anil he says that he will be back with the bells on when racing is resumed in Kentucky again againJ J B Campbell racing secretary at Churchill Downs Douglas Park and Latonia has left on an automobile trip to Bellaire Mich Mr Campbell has had a strenuous siege as he worked all win ¬ ter at New Orleans and Hot Springs witlMha ex ¬ ception of a few weeks when he was confined in a hospital iu the former city with appendicitis and he plans to take a good rest this summer summerW W II Shelley whose home is in this city and who is a placing judge at all of the Kentucky tracks is serving as clerk of the scales at Empire City now He will return home for the summer at the conclusion of that meeting meetingFILLY FILLY BELLSOLAR TURNED OUT OUTDr Dr Henry Harthill has fired Bellsolar the gooil twoyearold filly owned by the estate of W F Schulte and several times a winner on the Ken ¬ tucky circuit last spring Trainer James Ever inau brought her down to Douglas Park Bellsolar I developed ankle trouble late in the spring but Evermau thinks that it will not bo of a serious nature and now that she has been fired he expects her to be better than ever next fall Everman has Jake Greenbergs horses in charge including Churchill Downs which won a race at the recent Latouia meeting meetingW W A Kirwan bookkeeper at Douglas Park and Latonia has arrived from the Milldale course It took Kirwau several days to get his affairs straight ¬ ened away and he came home as soon as he saw that everything was sailing smoothly smoothlyJohn John Daniels who formerly rode for E R Brad ¬ ley but who this spring has been employed by the A K Macomber stable is able to be around again after having been confined to his bed for a month I witli stomach trouble Daniels could not even go to Latonia with the Macomber horses because of his serious condition but he is in the best of health now and will report to trainer Walter Jennings at Saratoga SaratogaMike Mike Quinu who has been connected with the sport of running races for more than a quarter of a century is one person who contends that jockey Harry Lunsford is the best rider seen iu the Blue Grass State or any place else for thatmatter iu years Mike has worked in the jockeys room on numerous tracks and has been thrown into close contact with hundreds of the countrys best riders but he says that he has never seen Lunsfords equal from any standpoint Jockey Saude is a highclass rider said Quiun but he will have to show me at Saratoga that he is a better one than Luns ¬ ford fordJockey Jockey Chris Miller who has been under contract to A F Dayton for several years is spending the summer iu this city Chris was injured in a fall at Douglas Park but not seriously enough to cause him to quit riding He is above the draft age and is one of the real veterans of the saddle saddleJack Jack Adkins owner of Woodpile which won a is one of the late arrivals here Jack sent Wood ¬ pile back to Lexington to spend the summer
