SATISFACTION IN THE EAST Announcement of Fall Racing in Kentucky HeartSiy Received General Sejoicing Over Action Actionof of the Kentucky State Rac ¬ ing Commission ISy 7 R Jeffery JefferySaratoga Saratoga N Y August 13 There is much satis ¬ faction in racing circles hen over the announcement that he usual race meetings will be conducted in Kentucky next fall in spite of the movement in ¬ augurated not long since to susiKMid tin sport This ocliiig is not confined to the horsemen and others who make it a custom to patronize Kentucky ing regularly but is entertained by the devotee nerally and especially by those active in me iiiiinagcment and control of racing on the New York tracks It is felt hen that it would have been a serious mistake to have suspended racing in Kentucky as much on account of the example which such a course would have entailed as for the ether considerations involved The mere suggestion that the Kentucky meetings might be i i i iii coming fall aroused both amazement lion in eastern racing circles when first made some we kn ago and there is a general feeling of relief and rejoicing that those who control the destinies of racing in Kentucky have decided not to heed the suggestion ami have advanced such good reasons as they have for the continuation of the sport as a patriotic duty in these trying times timesThose Those who are accustomed to race their hoi Kentucky will go back there to a man next fan ami tin splendid purses which it lias been announced will lie offered at all the tracks will have the effect of tempting others to ship their stables west With fall racing in full swing in Kentucky and Ma and on the New York tracks in addition hor aro facing the prospect of a highly satisfactory finale to the present racing season seasonThe The success of the horses owned by Richard T Wilson president of the Saratoga Association is one of the most pleasing developments of the racing here to date Under the skillful direction of Thomas J Ilealey who lias so long presided over the des ¬ tinies of the Wilson stable with signal success the Wilson colors have been carried to the fore with a pleasing regularity since the opening of the season No stable enjoys a greater popularity with the racing public as one result of the highclass sports ¬ manship of its proprietor proprietorHANNIBAL HANNIBAL SUPERIOR MUD RUNNER RUNNERIt It is with no little satisfaction that the patrons of racing here have come to the conclusion that Hanni ¬ bal a son of Olambala and Mexoana a colt of Mr Wilsons own breeding he possesses a twoyearold of outstanding ability particularly in muddy going Hannibals clear cut and decisive victory in the rich Saratoga Special on Saturday last was accomplished in spite of much soreness which the colt has been showing of late lateWilfrid Wilfrid Viaus great colt Vesty Ilogan which has given convincing evidence of a return to his best form by scoring on successive days in important races last week has two more engagements to fill during the remainder of the Saratoga meeting He is eligible to the Merchants and Citizens Handicap if one mile and threesiztcenths to be run on Saturday August M and also to the Saratoga Cup one mile and three iiarters to lie rim on the closing day of the meeting Saturday August SI It is altogether likely that he will fill both of these engagements Eastern patrons of racing are now onvinced that Westy Hogan is equally at home in dry or wet going Until he ran here over a sloppy Jrack on Friday and made a show of such a super ¬ lative mud runner as Naturalist has shown himself Jo IK upon more than one occasion there was a dis ¬ position to regard the mud running ability of the win of Dick Finnell and Carrie Jones with suspicion Ilis victory in the heavier going which pnvailed m Saturday gave further convincing evidence that he an run just as well in the mud as over a fast track trackThe The failure of the Saratoga track to dry out as rapidly as expected following the severe drenching to which it was subjected on Friday last affords no criterion of the dryingout propensities of the newly constructed course From Friday to Monday there was no drying weather During practically all of this iKriod there was no sunshine and at ¬ mospheric conditions were unfavorable Then also was rain on Sunday morning which wet the surface of the track anew The deep cushion with which the track is equipped at present naturally absorbed non water than would have Inen the case with a harder surface
