CHEYENNE RED CROSS DAY BIG SUCCESS SUCCESSCheyenne Cheyenne Wyo August 10 Thursday was Red Cross day in Cheyenne and the largest crowd that ever witnessed racing here turned out The major ¬ ity of the stores closed up for the afternoon mak ¬ ing it a half holiday All of the gate receipts were turned over to the Red Cross fund and every ¬ body had to nay their admission The gate pro ¬ gram and cushion concessions netted over 2000 2000A A prize ram was donated by Mr F S King of this city to be auctioned off Charley Irwin the wellknown horseman acted as auctioneer He asked first for complimentary bids The first bidder was Master Warren Pershing eight years old the only son of Gen John J Pershing commander of the American forces in France Young Pershing started the ball rolling by bidding 25 and the sec ¬ ond bid was 50 by his grandfather United States Senator Francis E Warren The bidding ran along until over 700 was realized Then Mr Irwin put the ram up for actual sale It was purchased for 2 ColoTreasurer 0 by Mr W C Roberts of Greeley Colo Treasurer John O Talbott and Manager W W Finn worked untiringly to make the day a big suc ¬ cess for the Red Cross and their efforts were well rewarded
