STEFAN THE GREATS IMPOSING VICTORY Englands most famous race for twoyearolds the Middle Park Plate at threequarters of a mile was run at Newmarket October IS and was won by the gray colt Stefan the Great by The Te trarch Perfect Peach with Knight of Blyth sec ¬ ond Dominion third and six more unplaced The race this year was wortii 10075 to tliu winner concerning which W Allison wrote in London Sportsman SportsmanWe We have certainly seen something like a cham ¬ pion win the Middle Park Plate today for Stefan the Great is unquestionably backward and it was a surprise to see him able to acquit himself so brilliantly in his present condition His trainer had hardly expected from home gallops that he would stay the threequarters so well but no doubt his first race must have done him a lot of good Mr Lionel Robinson half thought of reserv ¬ ing him for the Dewhurst Plate so as to give him more time but bolder counsels prevailed Dominion came out best of the penalized division but Bruff Bridge disappointed his supporters His form at the last meeting was moderate for Baal Gad was only a length and a neck behind him and we saw the other day that Baal Gad must be fully twentyone pounds behind Bttchau Knight of Blyth finished second today and he is certainly a somewhat un ¬ lucky colt Lord Basil had a following but he may not be at his best until next year There can be no mistake now about The Tetrarch having made good with his first twoyearolds and it is little short of astounding that Admiral Meuxs fine Te ¬ trarch yearling filly did not make her reserve of 1001 guineas on Wednesday Why Mr Buchanan has been offered 1000 guineas profit on the Te ¬ trarch yearling which he bought as a foal last December The colt in question is a brother to Stefan the Great and would doubtless realize sev ¬ eral thousands profit if he were offered for sale now Mr Uobiusons actually best The Tetrarch foal did not come up for sale in December but he let her go as a yearling last month for 400 guineas This was the gray filly dam Bill and Coo Hu Maiden Plates were not of much interest nnd people wnc more concerned in looking it th Middle pjirk runners of which Stefan the Great is cerlaiuly tlie most commanding Whether he will be started for the IVwhtirst Plate at the next meeting is uncertain It was Mr Robinsons in ¬ tention to rim him for only one of the big races but now that he has sot through the first of them successfully it may be decided to let him go for the other also
