SUCCESSFUL OPENING AT JEFFERSON JEFFERSONConstant Constant Additions to Racine Colony Insures Aus ¬ picious Beginning of Sport in Crescent City New Orleans La November 21 Constant addi ¬ tions to the racing colony here insures a successful opening at Jefferson Park Saturday when the sec ¬ ond annual race meeting at the track begins For some unaccountable reason many racing people have iHcaiise of the meeting being opened before Thanksgiving gained en impression that the period before Thanksgiving Day would be a fair meeting and that the regular season would follow Satur ¬ days opening will be followed by continuous racing until December 31 and the Fair Grounds will fol ¬ low with its racing beginning January 1 1The The racing at Bowie and Latonin will cause a shortage of material here for the first few days but after the close of Ltitonia Thanksgiving Day the Kcntuckians arrival will find the racing here in full swing The loTal tracks will probably suffer more from a scarcity of good riders than anything else during the earlier period This phase will adjust itself later and there will be an over ¬ abundance racingWhile of jockeys in the second week of racing While fewer than iiOO horses are at Iwth tracks at present indicating to unacquainted ones a shortage of racers the contrary will be Jhe rule of the 1030 stalls at both tracks accommodating more than 1350 horses All available space has been assigned and at present the respective track superintendents are wrestling with a problem of trying to house 4Sr horses in 132 stalls stallsIt It will be weeks however before all the owners intending to take part in the local racing this winter will be here The late arrivals this after ¬ noon included the horses of W II Fizer P T Chinn sent word here that he would shin his aggre ¬ gation shortly from Maryland John Lowe and E It Bradley are arranging to send their consignments from Latonia Sunday SundayDuring During the absence of Starter Eddie Tribe who will remain at Powie for the duration of the meet ¬ ing there Starter Miller will preside at the barrier here hereLeo Leo Mayer and Ed Ityan are expected from the east tomorrow Other arrivals from New York to ¬ day included Colonel James and other wellknown operators operatorsIssuance Issuance of badges took up most of the time of the nicing officials on the grounds today Tiie ap ¬ plications for licenses will lie passed on tomorrow In this connection jockeys who intjend coming here are advised to send in their applieatio7isvfor rifling licenses at once
