IMPROVEMENTS FOR NEW YORK TRACKS Plans Made for Beautifying Bslmont Park Jamaica and Empire City Courccs Xew York November 21 Everyone in this section concerned in turf affairs is so enthusiastic over the prospects for future racing that they are wear ¬ ing smiles that defy gloom Not only does this state of affairs exist amons the horsemen and general folk who attend the races but the managers of racing associations are planning important im ¬ provements at their tracks Bclmont Park started the ball rolling when it decided to dig out the old track and rebuild it after the style of Saratoga This means much time and money but it was deemed necessary It may be that now the war is over it will be iwssible to get steel and workmen to rebuild the grandstand but that question can ¬ not be answered yet yetAt At the Jamaica track there will be many im ¬ provements the icnoviition of the infield being the most important Never since the course was built has any notice been taken of the infield It was ilways full of shell holes as it were made more conspicuous by miniature sand dunes topped off with in old cornstalk or two and a few strands of broomstraw here and there Now tilings will be different for the whole place is to be planed down anil decorated to compare favorably with other tracks hereabouts hereaboutsJamaica Jamaica is not the only racing plant that will he improved in appearance with a new paint dressing Kmpire City is to undergo many changes In the first place the grandstand and clubhouse are to have additions and joined together to avoid the congestion that has existed on big days and holi ¬ days According to plans there is to be several rows of boxes built from the club section to the grandstand making it similar to Aqueduct and Saratoga This will be a desirable improvement for there were times hist year at both meetings that it was practically impossible to move around in the clubhouse inclosure without great inconvenience inconvenienceIm Im doing to mnkf things as comfortable as I can for the folk that come to Kmpire is James Butlers remark There is enough iu this world to give evcrylAxly elbow room and they are going to get it if I can give it to them We are going to put l many new stables also and repair the old ones We ar going to have a nice place for next years racing see if we dont
