BIG PRICES FOR HORSES NEXT YEAR More Baaing Opportunities Will Serve to Increase Value of the Thoroughbred New York November 22 Talk about the high price of food and commodities that is nothing com ¬ pared with the prices that will be asked for horses next year This is the expressed opinion of those in a position to know They base their judgment on the fact there will be considerably more racing in 1519 than this year coiistquently a greater de ¬ mand for thoroughbreds thoroughbredsIn In the first place it is reasonably sure there will be racing in Canada which will pull at least from 700 to 1000 horses from the general collection especially if the halfmile tracks operate Coupled with tliis the prospects arc there will be consider ¬ ably more racing in the west than there was this year Then there is the posibility of a longer season in New York State it having been intimated the sport will begin earlier and end later than it did this year The conflict of dates with Maryland this year has shown that there was sufficient ma ¬ terial for both circuits circuitsWhat What will increase the value of the horse how ¬ ever more than shortage is the goodly purses that will be offered and the rich stakes in prospect Kentucky bristles with rich events and New York and Maryland are both displaying decided liberality in added money Add to this the rich Canadian purses in the event that racing is resumed in the Dominion the prospects for earning capacity of horses is almost beyond conception conceptionEven Even now it is next to impossible to liny a horse that can win races unless a fabulous sum is offered An idea of this is gathered from the price Com ¬ mander 1 K L Ross paid for War Pennant Motor Cop and War Marvel the sum being 75000 for the three One can therefor imagine what a race horse is worth if its earning possibilities are almost doubled to what they were this year and the pros ¬ pects of expenses being less now the war is over Headymade overHeadymade horses will be iu great demand unless all signs fail which are not likely ToJay it is almost iniDossible to buy a horse equal to winning a cheap selling race for less than 1500 or 2000 This has been proved time and time again in sell ¬ ing and claiming races With Canada resuming racing it means that at least 25 per cent more money will be added to the annual distribution this year Breeding and buying horses appears to be a rather alluring industry these days as prosperity is lurking everywhere and looks as if it will con ¬ tinue to lurk for many years to come in this country
