ETERNAL FOR THE KENTUCKY DERBY Conqueror of Billy Kelly and The Wanderer to Be Trained at Hot Springs LEXINGTON Ky December 7 Is the Wanderer likely to prove to be a better horse than Eternal the writer asked of James W McClelland in the course of a conversation here one evening this week weekThe The Wanderer is a magnificent horse fast and courageous but I would not care to go on record as having said that he may prove to be a better horss than Eternal nor would I want to be under ¬ stood as saying the reverse of that replied the former lx xiiigtoniaii who has the distinction of having made the spccial nice that netted the Mary ¬ land chapter of the American Ked Cross 20000 when Eternal defeated Billy Kelly for the John It McLean Memorial Cup at Laurel LaurelThe The Wanderer continued Mr McClelland can rim iu any kind of going which is to say he has no choice of tracks and he can carry 130 pounds of rider with no more indication of effort than when lie has up a ninetypound lad He looks and acts like a great horse but he has yet to prove himself himselfWhile While Eternal has disclosed his partiality for a fast track to such a degree that we wouldnt think f asking him to go a grueling race in the mud he jt tile same time has established himself a a high class race horse We have so much confidence in him that he will be pointed for the Kentucky Derby and so is The Wanderer for that matter but the son of Sweep and Hazel Burke is to bt our first string If it is warm and the track fast on May 10 I feel that if none of the misfortunes in racing lief all him Eternal will put up a sparkling performance before the vast throng assembled at Churchill Downs to see the running of DerbyEternal the coveted Kentucky Derby Eternal is a nicer without a bad habit He is a gentleman in the equine world He has never been known to do a coarse or ugly thing either in his stall or on the track He is quiet and has a most excellent disposition He never Uicks or strikes out with his forefeet or bites Those who have observed him at the post have noted that lie does none of those things thingsEternal Eternal and The Wanderer will get their pre ¬ liminary training for the Kentucky Derby at Oak lawn Park Hot Springs Whether they will remain there until a short while before the opening of the New Louisville Jockey Clubs meeting depends en ¬ tirely upon the weather in Kentucky next spring
