SUN SHINES AT JEFFERSON Rapidly Improves the Track and Assures Renewal of Racing Horses Coughing Through Expos ¬ ure Stables Moving Over to the Fair Grounds NEW ORLEANS La December 22 The bright sunshine of today combined with much hard work by the army of tnick employes worked wonders with the Jefferson Park track so that conditions are again almost normal The waters that inundated certain sections have receeded but have naturally left them in a muddy condition There is also a big improvement in the condition of the stables that suffered the most from th flood floodThe The track proper is again in a state that will permit of racing although it is deep in soft mud The sport will be resumed Monday and unless there is a repitition of last weeks weather the meeting will go on without any further interruption to tha advertised closing date dateThe The Fair Grounds track owing to its location and construction suffered but little from the storm Sunday morning the horses were working over it but were compelled to gallop near the outer mil as a double set of dogs had l een placed in posi to prevent the inner portion from being cut up AVIth a continuance of fine weather this track will be in firstclass condition in a couple of days The antiquated barns on the grounds that shelter many valuable horses however did not stand up well under the deluge Many cases of leaky roofs have been reported with resultant danger to the health of the horses a number of which are coughing due to the dampness dampnessSunday Sunday witnessed the transfer of many stables from Jefferson Park to the Fair Grounds track Among the number were A R Bresler who moved his stable of twelve horses over Mr Bresler super ¬ intended the transfer Today was the first time ha had been out since he has stricken with illness several weeks ago Ex jockey Claver who is at ¬ tached to the Hresler stable lias also been on the sick improvementMrs list but is now showing rapid improvement Mrs A G Blakeley wife of the wellknown trainer underwent a serious operation at the Hotel Dieu this morning and was reported to be resting comfortably comfortablySCHTTXTINGEE SCHTTXTINGEE TO EIDE FOE BLAKELEY BLAKELEYJockey Jockey Andy Schuttiager will be among the riders at the Fair Grounds meeting He will ride for A G Blakeley and has notified that trainer that he will reach here from his home in Hrooklyn during the first week of January E Haynes who is now riding for Itlakeley will be retained by the stable stableTrainer Trainer Harry Pritchard has severed his connec ¬ tion with the stable of Wagner Williams and will be come affiliated with some other estab ¬ lishment Scott Williams the veteran colored trainer has reached here from Kentucky with the twoyear old Connecticut which will not be raced until the arrival meetingWhile of the Fair Grounds meeting While being exercised on the Fair Grounds track Sunday John Uaiidolphs useful twoyearold Archie Alexander became unmanageable and narrowly es ¬ caped injury when he ran into a track harrow near the threequarters gap It gapIt J Mackenzie the Canadian railroad man and sportsman who has been visiting here for a week departed today for New York He will return after the New Year arrives arrivesThe The Fair Grounds management has notified horse ¬ men that the jockey fees for a winning mount will be 2 for horses placed second or third 10 ami for horses unplaced S3 S3According According to the list of officials who will servo at the Fair Grounds meeting E C Smith will be an addition to the judges stand and will be asso ¬ ciated with Joseph A Murphy and J IJ Campbell The position of patrol judge which was abolished last winter lias been restored with Herman Conk ling named for the place Mr Coukling is at present one of the judges at Jefferson Park
