SPRING MEETING AT JEFFERSON PARK NEW ORLEANS, La.. January 1. The Jefferson Park meeting, which just terminated, could not ba termed a howling success and. according to the management, there will be no financial gains. Overhead expenses and cost of maintaining the plant are items of considerable amount and the earl3 deficit sustained, as a result of opening hurriedly proved costly. Weather conditions lias also been a factor in Jenig revenues down and the loss of two days ung the height of the season because of the flooded condition of the track also made an inroad inf lict receipts. The management has now in contemplation a meeting in the spring to follow on the heels of the Fair Grounds. Improvements to the track entailing the resoiling of the course is already in prospect and the work will be started at once. It is intended to use river sand to mix with the present soil and particular attention will be given to tricky spots where blind holes showed after stormy weather.
