FLEEING SHEIK HAVANA STAKE WINNER Captures the Cuba-American Handicap on His First Appearance at Oriental Park. HAVANA, Cuba, January 5. D. Hammond furnished the winner of todays feature event at the Oriental Park track when the good-looking three-year-old Fleeing Sheik came from behind and beat Corson by a neck. It was the Cuba-American Handicap, u dash of three-quarters of a mile, which brought out a half dozen starters, with Fleeing Sheik making his first appearance of the meeting. Despite this he was accorded strong support. The stake was worth ,300 net to the winner. The track was still heavy, but the fields were well balanced and furnished keen contests. The attendance was particularly large and speculation heavy. Joe Marrone won his first race of the meeting -when Fustian beat Lady Order by a length in the third race. The fiftli nice brought to the starter a lot of sprinters which furnished a driving finish between five of them. Sparkler proved the best and won by a M?ant length.
