WELL KNOWN LOCAL OWNER DIES v, Walter Hedges died of influenza in the Jefferson Park Hospital Wednesday forenoon. In the last years of racing over Chicago tracks he was well known locally as an owner, particularly of the popular favorite Gregor K. This racer made a sensational debut at Washington Park July 7, 1902, in a race for maiden two-year-olds contested by fifteen starters. The track was heavy, and so little was thought of Gregor K. that he went to the post at 200 to 1. That did not prevent him from winning in a canter. He turned out to be a good race horse, and won twelve races that year, as well as many afterward. Mr. Hedges owned other horses, but Gregor K. was his best. His body was taken to Jeffersonville, Indiana, for interment.
