JOCKEY ROBINSON STARS :. .!. Rides Four Horses to Victory- at the Fair Grounds,,. T - ,i. First with Medusa, Selma 6., A. N. Akin and Grayson Track Conditions Still Bad. . XFW ORLEAXS. La., February 0. Jockey Robinson, the diminutive Canadian apprentice, who has by his good riding been causing a furore in these parts, experienced his best day and incidentally came more prominently into the limelight when he landed four of his mounts victorious. His skill and confidence on some of his mounts would have done credit to some of the more experienced stars of long ago when riding was an art. as exemplified by Garrison, McLaughlin, Maher, Miller and Sloan. Robinson began his days success with Medusa, which after her long letup showed a superior performance and won without much difficulty from Ettahe and Kingling II. He did not have a mount in the next race, but came right back witli. a .victory on . Selma .; carrying the colors of Jake Greenberg, the Louisville turfman. On this flllv he was forced to display his best skill to land her home in front by the short margin of a neck in advance of the fast coming Toddler. His next victory came witli Ed Trotters A. X. Akin, a frequent disappointment, but he was favored by tlie action of Garner on Kate Bright, which offered Sands of Pleasure considerable interference at a critical juncture in the stretch. Sands of Pleasure, with a clear course, might have beaten A. X. Akin. It was with Grayson in the succeeding race that Robinson showed, -himself . .possessed. - :more than ordinary riding sklir and confidence, for he nursed this apparently beaten nicer through the stretch like a veteran and virtually bluffed the victory from Pool, who was on the suddenly improved Brownie McDawell. and Sneidnian on Jiffy. The pair were pressing Grayson closely and were separated only by tlie margin of heads in the last sixteenth, but despite, the .imminent9 danger that Gniysou was in.. Robinson .held his mount in checu and forced the other pair df riders to go to the whip, Jiffy swerving as a result and Brownie McDawell faltering when he felt the sting of the lash and, before recovering fully, Grayson had won by a head. After his four ..successive victories the crowd settled iu expectation of witnessing the youngster duplicate tlie six winning mounts record of Lee and Overton accomplished in one afternoon, but on Sosius, his next mount. Robinson could do no better than land iu third place and Paul Connelly, his other mount, though favorite, failed to get "a place iu the purse. Incidentally. Paul Connelly was the only beaten choice during the afternoon. ROBINSONS SUCCESS HITS 0RALIZERS. The success of Robinson and six choices caused havoc with the oralizers and distress signals were displayed by most of them before the suddenly improved Bujazet came to their rescue by landing the filial race from Doa Dodge. Jn .several recent starts when ridden by Ensor Bajazet has been finishing far back, but under Poolfr energe, tic .riding this afternoon Bajazet raced like much the liest and won easily. Ensor had one mount during the afternoon, but the Jinx continues in his direction, for Tlios. F. McMahon. on which he was astride, almost went down, at the start as a result of his stepping into a hole. W. Perkins, represented in the fifth race by Margaret X.. claimed Jiffy out of the race for ,800. Jiffy formerly ran in Perkins colors and was taken from him by tlie claiming process. Tze-Usi was among the absentees . from, the opening race, due to being ineligible. A. F. Gardner, owner of the Crown Point Stable, was among todays visitors and will remain for some time. . .. . , - Samuel J. Davis, who managed the Essex Park, Hot Springs, track during the racing there before tlie tracks transfer to .tlie Oaklawn people, was among the visitors and will remain several days to take in the sport. Well-informed Buffalo.nians confirm the story that a track is in contemplation near the old Kenil-wortli site and that it has the backing of several prominent Xew Yorkers. Charley Murray of Buffalo is iu charge of carrying out the project. As a result of having- his claim for Dblina refused because of not bains registered as ail authorized agent, for the Sunny Stable, Frank Van Ness had the necessary papers lodged witli the secretary this morning. Some concern is being felt by the owners here over an order Issued by the secretary" of the Louisiana board of affairs at Baton Rouge requesting the name, breeding, owner and value to owner of every horse at the Fair Grounds. Jack Tlioinby and his wife sustained severe losses as a result if a fire which destroyed tlie cottage they lived in close to the Fair Grounds. Few of their effects were saved. The fire was caused by an oil stove upsetting.
