5000 DERBY FOR JEFFERSON PARK Elaborate Plans Announced for Next Winter Track and Plant to Bo Entirely Renovated NKW ORLEANS La March 15 Liberal purses including a 5000 Derby to be run Mareli 17 1520 a twentyeight days winter meeting and a twenty six days spring meeting are the plans of the Jef ¬ ferson Parish Fair Association for Jefferson Park as announced tonight by G IX Bryan one of tlfe largest stockohloders War conditions the scarcity of labor and the uncertainty of racing last fall pre ¬ vented us from going through with all our plans tlw past winter said Bryan We had vended to rebuild the track and have thebost race rfdnrse here to elevate and generally remodel our plant so it would be the neatest and most comfortable racing park in Louisiana Last yeurithe track was neg ¬ lected as we realized it would be a waste of time and money to keep u force busy on it all the year round if the government was going to ask for a suspension of racing but for next year it will b different Immediately after the close of our present meeting we will start to work on the track and after resurfacing it will allow it to set all summer then I have no doubt we not only will have a lightning fast track next fall but will have a course better drained than before Jefferson Parks next meeting will open Thanks ¬ giving Day It will continue to January 1 when the Fair Grounds starts The Fair Grounds meet ¬ ing will end February 18 when Jefferson Park again will throw open its gates this time for its spring meeting which will continue through to St Patricks Day March 17 Resides the Jeffer ¬ son Parish Derby as the 5000 stake race prob ¬ ably will be called there will be several minor stakes ranging from 1000 to 2000 at Jefferson Th Derby will of course be for threeyearolds and eighthStakes will be at a mile and an eighth Stakes for threeyearolds and older horses will M run during the first section of the Jeffer ¬ son Park meeting and these combined with the big program the Kusiness Mens Racing Associa ¬ tion is planning at the Fair Grounds next winter should bring the cream of winter stables down hen for the best season of racing in the history of New Orleans
