MATT WlNNS FIRST APPOINTMENT Assigns Charles Nolte as Track Superintendent at Latonia No Successor to J P Eoss Named LOUISVILLE Ky April 2 General manager Matt J Winn of tiie Kentucky Jockey Club is grad ¬ ually working out the many details connected with the duties of his office and will soon have every ¬ thing working smoothly He has been besieged with innumerable applications for positions on the various tracks but he will not make any appointments until he has looked into thoroughly the qualifications of nidi applicantOne applicant One of his first official acts was to appoint Charles Nolte to the position of track superintendent for Latonia which lie did yesterday Nolte will assume his duties at the Milldale course Friday morning and will be succeeded at Douglas Park by Toin Young who will also continue in charge of the Churchill Downs track Col Winn has not given the question of the appointment of a successor to James P Ross at Lexington any thought inas ¬ much as Mr Ross resignation as track superinten ¬ dent does not take effpit until after the close of the Lexington meeting Col It L Baker resident man ¬ ager of Lexington was in Louisville yesterday and hail a long conferenue with Col Winn regarding affairs at the Blue Grass track trackThe The work of transferring all of the office furni ¬ ture and other paraphernalia from Douglas Park to Churchill Downs lias been completed Among the articles transferred was tin booth used for the making of two and threehorse combinations This would indicate that this system of wagering which was formerly in vogue at Churchill Downs and which in recent years proved popular at the other Kentucky tracks may be revived at the forthcoming Downs meeting
