ESCOBA TO RACE AGAIN THIS YEAR Has Recovered from Leg Trouble After Short Season in Stud High Hopes Entertained for Midway LOUISVILLE Ky April 7 Kscoba the four yearold sou of Broomstick Christmas Star and which carried the colors of Kenneth I Alexander in last years Kentucky Derby finishing second to Exterminator is to be placed in active training about May 1 1 and got ready for his stake en ¬ gagements in Kentucky aud the east according to an announcement made hy John It Morris who was paying a visit to Churchill Downs yesterday morning for the purpose of inspecting some promis ¬ ing twoyearolds that John 8 Ward is training for him himEscoba Escoba was retired to the stud last fall by his young owner in the belief that owing to some leg trouble the horse would not be able to race any more He was sent to J II Morris Bosque Bonita Farm and has been bred to twelve marcs including Antipathy Miss Charcot Golden Fancies Chin Chin and Starry Night In the meantime Mr Morris has been treating the colts bad leg with most bene ¬ ficial results He has had him broken to harness and drives him around the country roads hitched to a brake cart Apparently Escobas underpinning is just as sound as ever and taking cognizance of this owner Alexander has determined to send him to the races this spring and summer and next fall to throw him out of training and retire him permanently to the stud J S Ward who has always trained the horse for Mr Alexander will again be placed in charge of him when he is shipped to Churchill Downs DownsMr Mr Morris reported that Trevisco the Irish horse that Mr Alexander imported to this country and which is now doing stud duty at Bosque Bonita will undoubtedly prove si successful stallion There are now eight suckling colts and fillies by Tre viseo all of which with one exception have the blaze face that characterizes the Irish horse horseJohn John S Ward who is also training the horse belonging to J W Parrish is entertaining high expectations for the success of Midway during the coining Kentucky season Midway did not come to hand last year until the fall season and had reached the height of his form when the season was about to close He was most formidable at the second Belmont meeting and at Laurel where he beat the best matured horses in the country in ¬ cluding Cudgel and Exterminator He was wintered at Hot Springs under the care of W F Martin and recently has reached the local track trackMr Mr Ward on the other harid is not expecting Bulse another highclass horse belonging to Mr Parrish to win many races this year andit is doubtful if the onetime crack sprinter is able to stand un under training He has a bad hind leg which refuses to yield to treatment and it may be necessary to send the horse back to the farm before he has had a chance to appear under colors this year
