LEXINGTON MEETING HERE All in Readiness with Every Pros ¬ pect of Excellent Racing People Thronging to the City from fromAll All Over the Land A Fast FastTrack Track Promised LEXINGTON Ky April 23 What promises to eclipse in brilliancy any former opening of Ken ¬ tucky racing is in prospect tomorrow when tlie sport will inaugurate the control of the Kentucky Jockey Club over the historic course formerly conducted by the guiding spirits comprising the Kentucky Racing Association With the stage fully set and a fast track coupled with a good racing program there is every indication that all previous attendance records surpassedSeldom for an opening will be surpassed Seldom previously has the same amount of interest been displayed in a race meeting here hereThe The interest is not alone confined to Lexington iaus and adjacent points for turfmen of prominence from every section of the country have flocked here in great numbers to take an active part in the proceedings proceedingsNumerically Numerically the horses here do not show to any great extent for there are not more than COO horses quartered at the track and vicinity but what is lacked in quantity is amply made up in quality qualityAlways Always regarded as a testing ground for future greats the Lexington track will this year be par ¬ ticularly so on account of the numerous highly regarded twoyearolds that will try conclusions and their performances will be observed with par tteuliir interest by the racing element in all parts of the country The threeyearold brigade will also be the cynosure for the critically observant not alone because of their Kentucky Derby pros ¬ pects but because of their possible chances in lesser figureThe engagements in which they may figure The open season in these parts has enabled the owners here to go steadily on with training opera ¬ tions resulting in more horses being thoroughly fitted for their coming struggles The advantage formerly enjoyed by many horses after a successful winter racing season will not be so marked markedWith With every train bringing in capacity crowds the leading hostelrics are confronted with a possible shortage of accommodations for the visitors Thosa who failed to make their reservations are in immi ¬ nent danger of being forced to hustle hard to secure quarters quartersMANAGER MANAGER WINN ON THE SCENE SCENEGeneral General manager Matt J Winn was an arrival this morning and immediately went over the plans and arrangements of resident manager Robert L Baker Both put in a busy session perfecting final arrangements for the opening of the racing season Charles seasonCharles F Price who will serve as one of the stewards at Churchill Downs and Latonia was also a newcomer and gave his assistance to the local staff of officials in shaping matters to get the meeting well started If anything has been over ¬ looked that would aid in the success of the coming meeting it is not apparent on the surface surfaceTrack Track superintendent Jauies P Ross has the course looking its best and providing no rain falls before the bugle calls the horses to the post in the intro ¬ ductory race the track will be lightning fast fastEugene Eugene Elrod who will have charge of the mii tuel department has completed his arrangements for twentyfive mutuel machines to be in operation daily The force necessary for the operation of this big battery will include twentyfive ticket sellers twentyfour clickers and sixteen cashiers In addi ¬ tion there will bo a combination booth in operation for those who like to try their skill at grouping two and three horses There will also be two change booths placed in the pavilion to furnish bettors changeThe with small change The secretarys office has on file the registration of horses owned by 110 individual owners among them many who are racing here for the first time timeThere There is an excess of jockeys of all degrees and the Kentucky State Racing Commission will pass upon their applications for licenses as well aa other matters tomorrow morning Many of the riders will meet with disappointment for their applications will be turned down downThe The Pinkerton National Detective Agency has closed a contract Avitli general manager Winn to police the Churchill Downs and Latonia tracks during their racing seasons of 1019 Touts thieves and generally undesirable characters will receive tlie especial attention of the Pinkerton men
