RACING COMMISSION HOLDS MEETING Decide Upon Purses for Louisville and Latonia Meetings Many Appointments Made LEXINGTON Ky April 24 Tlie Kentucky State Racing Commission all present except chair ¬ man Johnson N Camden met here this morning with judge Allie W Young vicechairman presid ¬ ing the other members being Messrs Thomas A Combs J O Keene and William J Abrams Present also were secretary Samuel C Nuckols Jr Col Matt J Winu vicepresident and general manager of the Kentucky Jockey Club and Messrs Arthur B Hancock resident and Thomas B Cromwell secretary of the Thoroughbred Horse Association AssociationFollowing Following discussion of the report of the com miitee appointed by chairman Camdeii in December to make recommendations as to the value of purses for the spring meetings it was unanimously voted that the added money to purses at Louisville shall average 1200 and at Latonia 1500 and that the Kentucky Jockey Club shall increase that average to meet the recommendation of the committee which was made prior to contemplation of the or ¬ ganization of the Kentucky Jockey Club and its purchase of the tracks if the revenues from racing justify such increase Colonel Winn made an ap ¬ peal for a smaller sum as a starter saying that he would gladly raise the purses after the organiza ¬ tion had felt its way and found that it could be done lie said that he was unadvised as to the earnings at Latonia in the past and that he could not say whether 1800 purses could be given there but he was hopeful that they could The sums of 1200 and 1500 were fixed as a compromise upon motion of Senator Combs who was chairman of the committee making the recommendation for the in ¬ crease and It was accented by all present including Colonel Winn and president Hancock of the Thor ¬ oughbred Horse Association AssociationThe The commission adopted a resolution that in fu ¬ ture all judicial officers for the meetings at tracks licensed by it shall be appointed by the commission commissionThe The Kentucky Jockey Club was granted licenses to conduct race meetings in 1919 at Lexington Louis ¬ ville and Latonia A readjustment of the dates was approved as follows Louisville May 10 to May 31 and Latonia June 4 to July 5 5The The commission disapproved the plan to have race track managers acting as Stewarts and adopted a resolution to that effect effectState State treasurer Sherman Goodpaster judge Charles F Price and secretary Samuel C Nuckols Jr of the commission were appointed stewards beginning at Lexington meetingsWilliam and serving at all meetings William H Shellev Edward Jasper and N P McClelland judgesThe were appointed placing judges The appointment of Charles F Price William P Shelley and Edward Jasper as a board of han dicappers was approved as was the appointment of William II Shelley as nicing secretary Edward Jasjer entry clerk N P McClelland clerk of the scales S K Hughes timer W E Phillips patrol judge Doctors Hagyard and Shannon pad ¬ dock judges alternating at Lexington and Dr J pointsThe T Chawk paddock judge at the other two points The approval of Edward Jasper as entry clerk relates to Louisville and Latonia John S Wallace having been approved for that position at Lex ¬ ington ingtonJohn John K McLaughlin was reappointed supervisor of parimutuelsLouis parimutuels Louis J Theison was reappointed telegraph cen ¬ sor sorJ J O Keenes resolution that an official timer of exercise trials be appointed and that he have two assistants adoptedW was unanimously adopted W L Lewis a trainer of high integrity was appointed and he will name his two assistants The trials timed are daily to be made public and no other dockers as they are commonly known are to be permitted the privilege of the grounds as such suchIt It was unanimously voted that the racing secre ¬ tary shall post all scratches at 0 oclock each morning fo that the public may have the infor ¬ mation It was resolved that the scale of weights adopted by the Jockey Club of New York shall be the scale of weights for the Kentucky State Racing Commission beginning at Latonia LatoniaForfeits Forfeits were abolished but the abolition is not to be retroactive retroactiveMessrs Messrs Sherman Goodpasler Charles F Price S C Nuckols Jr and William J Abrams were appointed tiie commissions license committee
