KINGS PLATE TO BE RUN MAY 24 TORONTO Out April 30 The following an ¬ nouncement was made this afternoon in connection with the running of the Kings Plate at a meeting of tho directors of the Ontario Jockey Club held today It was decided that the Kings Plate will take place hccording to old custom and will be run on Saturday May 24 The race which closed on Tuesday March 4 lias been declared off and in its place a new race will be given with the sum of 3000 added to the sum of fifty guineas the amount donated to tills race hy King George The new entry blanks will be issued and entries will be confined to those owners who were included in the original entry and will close Saturday May 10 10The The decision of the Ontario Jockey Club to pro ¬ ceed with the running of the Plate on the ac ¬ customed day meets with general approval here while the suspension of betting continues until the present session of parliament ends probably about the end of June It was thought advisable not to delay the running of the chief Canadianbred event until that time as it Is for horses that have not won except as twoyearolds Owners would have to wait an unreasonable period of time besides it is possible that with only one meeting to be held this year by each club it is possible that the On ¬ tario Jockey Club might not race until September SeptemberThe The event that has just been canceled had thirty seven nominations and most of them have been at Woodbine in steady work for some time Uncle John the property of John Laxtou and the three owned by George M Hendrie are the only eligibles out of the country The former is being prepared in Maryland and the others Ammunition Salvo and Somme are with tine horses that trainer John Walters has in Kentucky It is expected that these four will soon be added to those now at Wood ¬ bine and the Seagram horses are expected from Waterloo next week weekNothing Nothing lias been announced and probably noth ¬ ing has been decided yet as to the setting for the Plate on Victoria day There will probably be other events of a sporting character but the Plate will be the only race of the day
