DEAN OF CANADIAN TURF PASSES AWAY TORONTO Ont May 2 Charles Boyle Sr dean of the Canadian turf died at Woodstock Wednes ¬ day at the age of SI years His connection with the turf dates back over fifty years For a long time he was associated with Erastus Burgess and many a good horse they owned Later Mr Boyle had a stable of his own and raced at all the big tracks in the United States and Canada During the latter part of his career he trained for Joseph E Seagram president of the Ontario Jockey Club He saddled Palermo and Roddy Pringle when they won the Kings Plate in 1852 and 1SS3 respectively Some of the good horses owned by Mr Boyle were Lord Xelson Havoc Springfield and Detective
