SPEEDING UP IN NEW YORK TRAINING NEW YORK X Y May 7 The trainers of the more fashionable stables left at Belmont Park are now getting down to brass tacks as regards working their horses A J Toyuer and Thflmas AAelch are letting their charges gallop along fairly speedily though the tighteningup process has not yet ar ¬ rived This morning Toyners horses were allowed to work at about a twominute gait while AVeleh sent his twoyearolds a half mile around the turn on the training track in about fifty seconds secondsTrainer Trainer Jennings is beginning to shoot the Ma comber horses along particularly his handicap en ¬ tries and twoyearolds The latter have been sent away from the barrier down tiie chute half miles in a rather impressive manner They appear to have been well schooled Of the older horses Star Hawk and Liberty Loan were sent a mile in about 147 They worked separately while AVar Cloud covered a mile in 145 in company with one of his stablemates The first seveneighths was covered In 131 indicating this horse is approach ¬ ing fitness fitnessThe The Schwartz Brothers owners of two or three horses In the hands of John Hastings were at thh track this morning and watched their mare Enfilade cover the threequarters route in l10 Siie is almost ready for the races racesPractically Practically all the work at Belmont Park is Itcing done on the old training track notwithstand ¬ ing that the regular course has been drained and renovated Just a few horses have been sent over it but the trainers evidently prefer the old train ¬ ing track They give as their reason that the im ¬ proved course may be a trifle hard while the old training ground is perfect for the preparation of horses
