LATf COMERS AT SARATOGA Cavanaugh Special Brings Large Crowd of New Yorkers Schorr Horses Due Monday Stallion Somewhere Donated Donatedto to Breeding Bureau BY T K LYNCH LYNCHSARATOGA SARATOGA SPKINGS N Y August 1 The Cavanatigh special of eleven coaches made a recordbreaking trip here from New York and arrived shortly after 11 oclock Thursday night Three boats one of them a special made the run from New York to Troy and the late comers made the trip up via the water route All agree that there is a larger crowd on hand for the opening than ever before in the history of racing in Sara ¬ toga togaP P T Chinn reports that the wellbred mare Elizabeth Harwood foaled a dead foal by Sweep at his farm near Lexington There are a dozen yearlings at the farm by various sires and col ¬ lectively they are said to be an extra goodlooking band bandS S A Clopton John W Schorr and E K Bryson were arrivals from New York and are quartrcd at a cottage on Nelson avenue Clopton is still a sick man although on the way to improvement and hopes that a month in Saratoga will bring him around in good condition again The horses that raced in Cloptons colors at the Empire City meet ¬ ing were shipped back to Maryland to be turned out with the remainder of the stable which are on a farm about five miles from Havre de Grace GraceThe The Schorr horses are due here Monday At the conclusion of the meeting they will go direct to Lexington and will be campaigned at the fall meet ¬ ings in Kentucky KentuckyM M Cyclone Kittleman pride of the cowboys got in from New York Kit has not missed a meeting at Saratoga in thirty years A few years back in partnership with his brother Frank he raced quite a pretentious stable in the west aud on the California tracks tracksJack Jack McDonald reports that his employer V J Starr has donated the wellbred stallion Some ¬ where to the Jockey Club Breeding Bureau Some ¬ where is a splendid individual by Assagai Fri zette and has two crosses of St Simon in his pedi ¬ gree He will be placed at one of the upstate farms farmsCARLTON CARLTON G STANDING IN GEORGIA GEORGIACharles Charles ODell who is here for the meeting con ¬ templates gathering together another string He already has a fine looking chestnut weanling by Carlton G dam the Star Shoot mare Southern Star This filly was foaled at the ODell farm near Savannah Ga where Carlton G now stands TJiere are about a dozen mares at the farm among them Louise Lyons and the wellbred Test TestCharles Charles Connors got in from Montreal and joined the regulars in the press stand Connors who did his bit on the other side came back pretty well bunged up He suffered two wounds one in the thigh and another in the shoulder besides being gassed twice His right leg due to the wound in the thigh was for a time paralyzed and he was confined in a hospital on the other side from November to March Connors took part in all of tbe battles in Chateau Thierry and the Argonne forests forestsRoy Roy Offutt made his first appearance in the east in some time when he dropped into Saratoga yesterday He was on the firing line this after ¬ noon Offutt came here from California CaliforniaJohn John Madlgin president of the Niagara Racing Association is here for the meeting Mr Mudigln dofn not appear to 1m overvnthusiastic over the prospects for a resumption of racing in Canada this year yearFRANK FRANK BRUEN TO BESIDE IN HAVANA HAVANAChas Chas Lansdale one of the moving spirits in the CubaAmerican Jockey Club and associate steward at Oriental Park got in from the west He brings the news that Frank Bruen is expected to arrive in Cincinnati this week to complete arrangements for the removal of his family and household effects to Cuba Mr and Mrs Uruen will in future make their home in Havana Lansdule recently bought Ed Wllberns stock in the Havana track trackJohn John Funell who got in from Baltimore reports that William Uuber met with an accident a short time back which will confine him for at least six mouths in the Protestant Union Hospital Mr Ilubcr fell off a street car and injured his spine spineW W C Edwards racing secretary of the Metro ¬ politan Racing Association is at Saratoga soliciting entries for the stakes to be run at the fall meet ¬ ing at Jamaica which are advertised to close AugiiKt 7 7Himon Himon Hcaly has arranged to ship to Sun Briar Court at Biiighumton N Y the fillies Norman Ithajuh and My Friend The latter is in foal to Sun Briar BriarRoger Roger Minton will in future make tlie engage giesU of jockey A Johnson
