MONEY WON TO DATE BY THE STABLES OF TEE THIRTY LEADING AMERICAN OWNERS IN THE CAMPAIGN OF THE PRESENT YEAR Commander J. K. L. Ross is well past the 00,000 mark in stable earnings and has made quite an inroiid into his second hundred thousand. His stable is so formidably equipped and there are so many rich stake races to be decided in the course of the coming autumn meetings that there is no telling what his ultimate stable aggregate for 1919 will amount to. The last time an American stable won as much as 00,000 was in 1908, when the stable earnings of James It. Keene footed up 82,342. The greatest sum credited to an owner since then was Sam C. Ilildreths 59,112 in 1909. It does not seem probable that owner Ross can reach the Keene figures quoted, but it does seem more than probable that he will surpass the Hildreth total, which will be doing quite well. That same Samuel C. Hildreth is second in the winning owners list, mainly through the speed of his tine three-year-old Purchase. This one is the best Orniondale has sent to .the races1 and is a worthy grandson of the invincible Ormonde. Mr. H. 1. Whitney is a good third. His big band .of speedy two-year-olds have served ills stable interests well and but for them his showing this year would be about the worst of his career as an owner. R. Parr is having his best year as a turfman and is fourth. Showing what one star horse can do for an owner, the Glen Riddle Farm stables earnings htst year were only the modest total of ,357. Due to Man o War mainly the record of the stable this year is already 0,020 and if that good colt carries oft the Hopeful Stakes and Futurity Stakes, as now seems probable, this stable will mount right up into second place. To date the earnings of our thirty leading money-winning owners are: Won in Leading Winner Won in Leading Winner 1918. Owner. in 1918. 1st. 2d. 3d. 1919. iiT 1919. 9,179 J. K. L.
