VETERANS WISDOM OVER DEAD HEATS The maiden victory of the shifty Dorset, after a dead heat over the St. Leger course October Hi, recalls the clever advice given by the late Tom Green on more than one similar occasion. It was to the efrect that if a dead heat is run oft and one of the runners is a shifty one. always baek it. His reasoning was that tho honest, one would have run Itself out, while the other had probably done nothing of the kind, and would have an easy task iu the decider. This reasoning is perfectly sound, and anyone who had it in mind should have backed Dorset in the decider at Doucaster. Loudon Sportsman.
