MORE RAIN AT JEFFERSON But the Racing Proves Good and Five Favorites Win. t Sans Peur II. an Easy Victor in Main Race of Day Wida and Garner on Two Winners. ! NEW ORLEANS, Li., December 9. Jefferson Park was not as lucky today in escaiing the tropical rain, for it caught the full force of the storm that has been prevailing intermittently in these parts. The downpour caused the conrse to become a circular lane of deei mud, enhancing the chances of those best in tills style of going. Because of the changed track conditions withdrawals were plentiful from the different dashes, but. good sport was the order notwithstanding. The talent was again in rare form, and all the winners came iu for extensive consideration. The victories by five favorites was additionally ruinous for the layers. There were only three starters in the feature race, a handicap at a mile and seventy yards, due to the nliscneo of War Mask, which was permitted to lo absent from the race on account of having run away two miles in a work-out -yesterday. The race developed a betting tilt lietween the siqqiorters of Sans Peur II. and Ballet Dancer II., with Sans leur II. turning ui an easy winner after having led for the entire race. Ballet Dancer II. made a game effort to wear the leader down just before reacing the stretch, but in the last eighth she tired and Sans Peur II. came home an easy victor. Flyaway, the other starter, came back to the scales with a decided Jimp. ...... Speedster, locally owned, graduated from the maiden ranks in the initial race and was supported with rare confidence. His task was an easy one. for he took the lead when called on and won decisively from Bob Baker and Revolution. Diamond Girl proved a disappointment again when she failed badly iu the second race, the purse here going to Burgoyne. which ran for his new owner. I. Clausen, for the first time. Ablaze gave the winner a stout argument for five-eighths, but thereafter had to do his best to retain second place from the fast coming Anticipate. Sungold. another recently claimed one and making his first start in the colors of his new owner, won the third race from Miss Wright and Kultnr and his victory did not give the layers much resiiite.. Sedgegrass. a newcomer here, was the medium for a coup in the fourth race and won easily from Lonely and Peggy C. LUTHER PLACED ON PROBATION. Parrish, which has been racing consistently, just managed to stagger in a winner by a close margin over Counterbalance and Pleasureville. There came near being a bad fall in this race at the start when Luther caromed against several. He is a notorious bad lost actor and after the finish the stewards announced that hereafter he would lie placed 011 the outside of the field and in the event that he does not show more tractability he will be barred from starting. The failure of the transfer van to the track from the Fair Grounds in time caused several racers to miss their engagements. L. A. Broaddus claimed Counterbalance after his defeat for ,000 and Diamond Girl was claimed by W. Carr for ,500. . Although it was positively known the track would be iu bad order for tomorrows racing, it did not result in any curtailment of entries for tomorrows :ard. ard an excess number is progammed in most of the dashes and in addition fifty-one were thrown out. Jockeys Mack Garner and S. Wida eacli won two races today. Wida, who is one of the lightest apprentice riders here, had not shown much previously, although he came here with a fair reputation. The weather man was not as kind to Jefferson Iark today as on Monday, when lie made a "dividing line" for the rain, allowing the Shrewsbury course to escape it. He not only sent plenty of moisture to make the oval muddy but he dispensed some more-during the running of-the races. Supt. Anthony Rouprich said that when the track drie. out now it will be faster than ever, as the rain served to pack the hew soil tight.
