FAST AT JEFFERSON PARK Tacola Defeats Arnold and The Boy in the Main Race. 1 - t Three Long Priced Ones Divide Honors, with First and Second Choices. NEW-ORLEANS. La., December 10. Some lively and interesting racing took place at Jefferson Park this afternoon. External elements were favorable, with pleasant weather and a track at its best, while the attendance was of the overflowing type. The actual favorites did not fare any too well, but several of the winners were hotly supported second choices, and one of the three outsiders which won was backed from 20 to 1 to 10 to 1. The fifth race was the feature, and its running brought 11 new track record and a revelation that the course is becoming faster than it was thought it could be. In this Tacola. which has been racing somewhat indifferently here, cut loose with a display of midsummer speed, and running the five and a half furlongs of the nice in 1:05 defeated the even money favorite, Arnold, to sav nothing of The Boy. Enmity, Ira Wilson and Toto, the latter falling lame in the race. It was a fine performance at the distance, and Tacola was not without his backers. At the weights Arnold ran a capital race and is at his best. Jlose and Maize, at 10 to 1, and Tacola, at 8 to 1, were the outstanding surprises of the day. The winning favorites were Ace of Trumps and Dragon Rock. The other winners were not far from being as good as favorites and, on the whole, results must have again been adverse to the. layers. A -capital nice "and another new track record marked the decision of the fourth race, a dash of a mile and seventy yerds, which Sands of Pleasure won in a rattling finish, with Lively second by half a length and the favorite Chief third. It was Chiefs first reverse here and gave his true measure. Ace of Trumps was dne. and under a good ride by J. Glass took the opening dash without much trouble, with Connoran second and Yaphank third. There were many who thought Yaphank would have won with a good ride, but J. Heupel was incapable of giving him that kind of guidance, so he suffered accordingly. Koh-i-Noor was served up hot for the second race and went to the post a great favorite, but the English-bred gelding Moso, whose sire is a brother to the famous Pretty Polly, forged into a small lead in the stretch and beat her by a neck in a smashing finish. Mose Goldblatt left here last night for Cincinnati, where he will remain until after Christmas. Furbelow, AVendy and Grand Slam will race in the colors of Robert Bowers. The trio will be nominated for the Louisiana Derby.
