FISHING BY ELECTRIC LIGHT A novel experiment is being tried by French fishermen off the Houloirne coast. Two powerful electric lights have been attached to their trawls, one at each side of the mouth. The fish, doubtless attracted by the bright, unusual glare, have swarmed in thousands into the nets. Numerous ingenious devices are constantly being tested hy fishermen to increase their catches. The most deadly engine for fishing is the "otter" trawl, which is dragged over the floor of the sea. The trawl soon becaaae* the worse for wear, and certain enterprising trawhrmen have experimented with a roller attached to the lower warp. The result has been greater fishing and less wear on the "otter" hoards. Taking a hint from fly -fishermen who dull their gut casts hy soaking them in toffee, the sardine fishers off Norway and France have taken to dyeing their nets hlue.
