PARK AGAIN ♦ ■ New Orleans Racing Shifts Over to the New Track. a Rain Makes the Going Difficult and Leads to Lavish Scratching — Favorites Take Races. tOnr ORLEANS. La.. February 1 v- The shift in the racing scene from the Fair Granada, after forty-one days, to Jefferson Park was marked by dis agreeable weather ami a heavy track, a result of constant rains that drenched the course. Considering the unpropitioiis weather a aarprtelngly large attendance was on band to view the opening of the second meeting, which will • bo in progress for twenty five days. Beeaaae of the difficult track the entire program was riddled, withdrawals being more numerous than at any former time thi- year. Rut speculators seemed to apat the winners without much trouhle. and some- well contested finishes served to pleaae the spectator- The fifth race, a dash of a mile and seventy yards, was meant to be- the headline- of the day. but scratching reduced it to a duel between Franklin ami the Solomon coupled entry of Urate and Who ares, the pair going to the pant silghtly the favorite. Rut Franklin was saved behind them to the stretch, with Lively cutting out the pace. When s,,uare j away in the atretrb Franklin came on fast, jilul racing into the lead took the -puis b tarn lengihs from Lively. With only four starters in the race for two-year-olds, which opened the proceeding*. Repeat was served up hot. and taking the lead at once won all the way without a particle of trouble, the lo to 1 outsider Auntie May oimacing Joe Tag for second mum y. It was the fir-t time the youngsters have been a-ked to race more than three-eighths this winter, the distance having been increased to three and a half furlongs.
