Rear- don Wins Like a Good One. 0 ■ I n i ; NEW OHLKANS. Li.. Ft binary 121.— The welcome udveat of hot sun.-hine worked wonders in the Jefferson Iark going today and the horses were enabled lo stretch themselves out with freedom. The track was by no means at its best, but it will be by Monday if Hie present agreeable weather conditions continue. The improved prospects bad their due effect on the attendance, and the place was crowded about to il- capacity with interested spectators. Naturally, the change in the going brought about some unanticipated results. This wa- particularly true of the feature race, a dash of a mile and a sixteenth, fiftn i 1 the card and contested by some good racers. There was a prevalent notion that Bandage was about due. and he w.i- backed into favoritism and ran pretty well, but third was the Ix-st he could do. Honolulu Hoy raced into the lead on the last turn, and holding it resolutely won from Otnond by a short head. Omoud was the best horse in the race, but lost considerable ground early, which lie failed to quite make up. Bath the first and second hocs were at long odds in the betting. John W. Schorr- two year-old John S. BeardOU -ho wed himself to he a better colt than he has been rated When he won the fir-t race. Cointreau, coupled with Peerage, was again the favorite, but John S. lieanloii quii kly showed in front, and making the pace fast held his own and won by a length from the favorite, with Hlomi-hod a half length Imek. The Memphis turfman may have a really good celt in thi- bay sou of Ormonilale. At any rale, he seems io improve steadily. Peccnal seemed the pick of the plater- contesting the second race, a three-quarter- -print for three year-old-. lie wa- accordingly the ravorite. but lie- Archer was al-o well backed and proved himself best by giving Pecennt weight and a length and a half beating under Lyke- capable Jockey-hip. Heavy Weapon ran well ami was a good third, while Hlue Jeans made up enough ground from a poor scudoff to suggest an early win. VETERAN BRINGHURST TO THE FORE. The veteran sprinter Hringhufst was greatly helped by the improved going, and in a warm final setto with another old-timer in 1iiUux captured the third race by a head. Port Light bringing up ill third place. Brtughursts -lie. e— wa- not nil -looked for. and the old fellow was well backed, hut Ban Tronap waa an even money favorite and his finishing fourth was not enjoyed by hi- c nfident supporters, American Ace. one of the best sprinters in the west, has not been shining any loo well here and in his lust race wa- an ignominous last, but lie ran like himself today and had no trouble in disposing of the pretensions of Charlie Leydeeker. Kings Champion and lwin in the fifth, showing a good order of speed and winning by an easy four lengths. The Knglish gelding Prospector gave Lyke his second winning mount of the day in the sixth race when he defeated The Belgian II. by a couple of lengths and GoMrxnal Bay confirmed his present good form when he won the concluding race of the day from Bubbling Louder and Planes by a good three lengths. No fresh leads were uncovered by the stewards ill their investigation as to the Courtship none -luffing. At present they have cume-hed an owner who. to all intents and purposes, is practically BUS- pended. but announcement of the fact is held in abeyance in the hope of landing other- and al-o to give Sam C. Nuckol-. Jr.. one of the stewards who served at the Fair Granada, opportunity Io review tlie evidence and cojicur in any gfeejabmn that the stewards will make. Hon Tramp «as claimed f,.r 00,100 by J. Of. Murphy, represented iu the third race by Bnhnhdar. The stewards were not sati-fied with the i iih that Coltiletti gave Hon Tramp iu the third race and had a lengthy interview with that youngslei. Later, on his return to the jockeys room. Coltiletti wa- taken -iek and canceled his remaining riding engagements. BTood traps ab-eiice from tin- fourth race was due to his failure to arrive at the Jefferson Iark track from the Fair Croiind- iu time to start.
