ARNOLDS BURST OF SPEED a Wins Him an Easy Victory in Jefferson Park Feature. a Ablaze Defeats Lady Brummel — Long Priced Horses Take the First Three Races. ♦ 1 NKW OIH.KANS. La.. February 34.— Aside from those in the fifth race the horses fiirni-hing the entertainment al Jeffersea Park this afternoon wen-nothing to beast of and up-et- were frequent. It had sained over night and lie- track was slow for the fir-t three races. After that it improved under tie- influence of sunshine and became gaud going, safe but not fa-t. although some speedy galloping was forthcoming in the fifth race of the day, which was the feature, and had a band of speedy ones entered to contest over its five and a half furlongs. American Ace- and Manoevie were scratched, and with good Judgment Arnold was made an even money favorite. Showing re Umrkabte speed in view of the condition- of the track, he set a tremendous pace to the last six., teenth and won easing up by four lengths, giving Ilutwell an easy winning mount. Ticklish ran the good nee he i- capable of when given a good ride and out-tayed Fort Bliss in a close finish for -ec-ond place. The others. although proved fsag banes, finished beaten off. Lady Uruinm-l. making her first start since last year, Was mid- a good favorite for tie- fourth raee and ran well, but showed lack of the beneficial effect of a race or two. and in an inleresting run wns beaten by Ablaze, with Kirah a good third. Ablaze wa- not ovi rl ashed, a- hi- being backed from 7 to 1 to li to 1 attested convincingly. Tali-man •hewed improvement in this race and may score he fan moving back to Kentucky. The fir-t three races fell to out-iders in the betting, but Fos Choice must have been suspected in the first race, seeing that he had enough hacking to cut his price from 10 to 1 to S to 1. lie won all the way. but was doing all he knew how at the end to withstand Triompliants challenge. The next two winners were at 10 to 1. Peggy C. defeating Midia narrowly in the second race and Willdo having a half length the best of Chick Berkley in the third. The Belgian II. i- in good form at pre St at I took the sixth race, for which Warsaw wa- the favorite, without much trouble, leading all the way and defeating the well backed Merchant by a length and a half. Jiffy and liedra made sorry showings in this dash. Tile- venerable Indolence seemed inspired by name reminiscence of tic- day- when he wa- something like a real race bane and galloped heme an ca- winner of the la-t race of the day. with LI Key and Lady Ward hi- nearest pursuers. Water War disappointed somebody sadly bare. Former jockey W.
