HORSES BEGIN WORK AT GRAVESEND NEW YORK N Y March IS There is a grow ¬ ing sentiment among horsemen and tliose concerned that rule 172 of The Jockey Club rules may be amended in the near future This is the rule apply ¬ ing to claiming races It is possible the wording may be changed eliminating the privilege of own ¬ ers or their agents to claim their own horses from claiming races which is possible under the existing rules It is believed that by such change much of the heavy wagering of some owners and their friends will be greatly reduced as well as pleasing horsemen who do not make enormous wagers wagersHorses Horses are being sent out on the track at Gravcsend This morning Frank Weir had a few of his candidates out as did Frank Taylor who has charge of the Hallenbeck string In a couple of days under existing weather conditions the Gravcsjnd track will be in workable condition conditionJohn John Hastings has signified his intention to ride in the oldtimers race to be run at Pimlico PimlicoCharles Charles E Mather the Pennsylvania representa ¬ tive of the Hunts Committee who is going abroad lias deputized Major K E Strawbridge to net as steward at the White Marsh meeting during ills absejiee absejieeMr Mr Mather also deputized Victor C Mather to act in the same capacity at the Huntington Valley meeting meetingBarret Barret Hayncs who will ride for Mrs F Am ¬ brose Clarke tins year has reported at Aiken to finish the schooling and education of Mrs Clarkes extensive string of jumpers 1 Howard Lewis predicts that Elysian and Toppy Nix will be two of the crack steeplechase horses this year
