STAR JUMPERS THIS YEAR Best Examples Training for the Maryland Spring Campaign Duettiste The Brook and Warlock WarlockAmong Among the Cracks Expected Expectedto to Compete PALTIMOKK Md Mimli in Tim bright weather f the last two or three weeks liis enabled the tniincrs of steeplechase horses preparing for the great spring carnival of crosscountry racing tlt will bo i signal feature of tin May meeting of the Maryland Jockey Club at the 1imlico track to make striking progress The Maryland Jockey ciib will offer at least one steeplechase every day ind tljerc is now every prospect that next springs ross country racing will lie worthy of the liest traditions of the spurt in Maryland MarylandProminent Prominent among the eastern promoters of stccplochasing whose horses famous ami otherwise will fill the fields of the Pimlico jumping races in Joseph K AVidcnor of Iliiladelpliia Captain Hal Tirr of Kaltimoro Mrs 1ayne Whitney of Now York Mr anil Mrs F Ambrose Clark of Now York Captain Joseph K Davis of New York and West Virginia Major Kobort L Gerry of Now York Morton L Schwartz Samuel Koss John Lnmsdon of Ottawa tnt Kdward M Veld of Kos ton William A irime and Temple Gwfithmoy of Warrenton Va II Hosier Dulany of Washington Archibald Karklio of Philadelphia Mrs Walter M Jeffords of Glen Kiddle Pa 1 P Flannagan Jr 1 Kdwin Griffith of Kaltimoro II W Maxwell Major AY K VAitkins L M fUiUklmusoif liihi delphia Henry J Morris Timothy Donohne George P Sherman William Miller etc etcIt It seems to be the expert opinion that Mr AVidoner WIOM horses tvintorcil at Klkins Iark near 1hiladelpliia will brine to Maryland as strong a steeplcchasing outfit as will be seen all the year There arc some twentysix jumpers of va ¬ rious ages and of varying degrees of educational development in the Widener establishment at Klkins Iark They were kept in good condition through the month when the ground was covered with snow and sleet by shed exercise Mr Wideners star of course is Duetlisto the winner last fall of the Manly Memorial Steeplechase And with Duettiste in the band of steeplechasers coming this way are llondini Crest Hill Max Meadows Doublet Stone wood Skibborfen and Kwonoshoo the last named winner of the Ticket of Leave Steeplechase at Iinrcl Also two or three green ones the most promising of those being Frogtown FrogtownTHE THE GREENTREE STABLE HOPES HOPESMrs Mrs Whitneys fencers which wintered at the splendid place built by the mistress of the Green Iroe Stable at Hod Hank New Jersey under the eye of James Owens probably are as far ad ¬ vanced as are the Widener horses Among them are Dohadou the winner two years back of the Klk ridge at Pimlico Koi Craig winner of last falls renewal of the Klkridge Wyndover a highly prom ¬ ising fouryea rold that showed about as well last year as did Hoi Craig the veterans Syosset Tetan nd the fiveyearold Mvihioan The Whitney jumpers will be at Iimlico not later than the first wool of April AprilCaptain Captain Parrs jumpers among which are several of the veterans that won a dozen steeplechases at Havre de Grace and Iimlico last spring put in the old months at William Garths farm near Char lottesville Virginia They were out in the open most of the time and probably they are as fit right now as they were a year back Mr Garth will train his jumpers at Pimlico track The Virginia horseman gave up his training quarters at Kenning last fall Warlock winner of last springs renewal of the r0M Green Spring Valley Handicap a race that will be renewed again this year as Pimlicos May steeplechase feature is the most noted of the Parr jumpers He has for ¬ midable stable companions in Le Marsouin Kug house Hoyal Arch Man o the Hour and the four yearold Esquimau EsquimauThe The Prook the star of the stable of Mr Griffith and the horse Diifttisto will have to boat a time or two at equal weight this year if he is to be considered a champion wintered at Griffwood Farm in Kaltimore County The Prook is training at the Jiowio track under the eye of Harry Kites He is going soundly again and will not require a great leal of schooling to be fitted for the impending renewal of the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase Itrooks winner of the Manly Memorial of 1 17 is jit Ileiming track with four or five other fencers of less celebrity notably Melodrama and Stradl varins Mr and Mrs Clark will bring to Pimlico the veterans Hiblor Hohin Goodfellow Klysian Toppv Nix Io Cyprin Jim Dinney ami Mr Ned and these fencers probably will be better than ever before Mr Clark was busy at remount work last year and the year before He did not have Hie time last winter to devote to the development of his and his wifes jumpers that he has had this winter Mrs Jeffords one good steeplechaser rabeook wintered at Samuel I Kiddles place near Jlorlin in Worcester County Maryland and prob ¬ ably is nearer fit for a good race than any other American jumper Winter touched Marylands east ¬ ern shore rather lightly
