WASHINGTON HORSES ARE FORWARD Some 150 Animals in Good Condition for the Coming Bovde Meeting WASHINGTON D C March 20 Some one hun ¬ dred and twentyfive of the horses that have win ¬ tered at Helming track in the District of Columbia fourteen miles from Howie will be ready April 1 to take part in the spring racing of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association The Penning horses are not as backward as it was feared they might be a mouth ago For three weeks the going of the old Washington Course has been in good condition and racers of all sorts have been gallop ¬ ing steadily Few of the Uenning stables will transfer ti Howie however Such horses as arc entered from day to day will travel to and from the track in express cars carsAmong Among the Kenning horsemen who are preparing to race at Howie are John F Schorr Elmer Tru ¬ man William Krooks Max Smart William P Kiirch J S Tyree J AY Kean Michael Kelly William Shields Matt lirady Jere Murphy and James Healey Kesides the horses of the Pean Stable Kelly is training Trisk a fleet but wind broken sprinter and the long distance running plater Pibroch for C C Smithson of AVashington AVashingtonWilliam William Shields is training a small stable for Edward Kussell Thomas of New York Matt Prady will not make an effort to race any of Captain Joseph E Davis steeplechasers at Howie although some flat racing would promote the preparation ol the Davis fencers for the crosscountry sport that will be a sharp feature of the impending Pimlico meeting He has the sprinter The Decision about ready for a winning race and The Decision was always partial to the soft going of the Kowie track trackAdam Adam Heunott will handle the string of J S Tyree which is quartered with the horses of AVil ¬ liam Pi Itnrch In the old Tyree barn James Ilealey one of the successful young trainers of last year will race such of the string of John Lumsdcu of Ottawa as can be got ready There is plenty of activity in the steeplechase field at lienuiiig and there are many promising fencers in the Lumsdcn string
